George Laporte "came from an artistic family... [and] turned to sport for the subjects of many of his paintings. He lived in London, exhibiting there from the age of seventeen. The proprietor of The Sporting Magazine used his work and later in life he was appointed animal painter to the King of Hanover and to the Duke of Cumberland" (Charles Lane British Racing Prints p.137.
