"This is an unrecorded piece of early Iowa printing by an unrecorded Iowa printer. The instructions were probably written several years earlier by Samuel Williams who with his brother, Fraser Williams, was engaged in Iowa surveys at the time, and printed in Dubuque as an aid to carrying on the surveys" (Streeter). OCLC records only three examples (Yale, Newberry and the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center).
