From 1852-1854, Richard Clark of Philadelphia published a number of Connecticut township plans based on surveys by Lawrence Fagan. This map of New Milford in Litchfield County is one of the largest and most elaborate. Drawn on a scale of five inches to the mile, the map shows virtually every building in the township, with most identified by owner. In addition, there are twenty-five vignettes of area residences, churches, and public buildings, plus a large view of the village of Gaylordsville. Detailed street plans of New Milford and Bridgewater are included as insets. All in all, the map includes an amazing wealth of information about mid-nineteenth century New Milford, all arranged in a decorative format. Ristow gives Fagan's Map of New Hartford, Litchfield Co., a full page reproduction (p. 391.)
