Publisher's dark blue cloth with gilt spine lettering. Front cover gilt vignettes of natives in costume and with weapons. Small ownership signature on each front endpaper. Aside from some inconsequential extremity wear. A fine set.

Charles Hose spent twenty-four years in the service of the Rajah of Sarawak with twenty-one years actually spent in Sarawak - Baram and Rejan districts - with visits to neighboring lands. William McDougall spent a year in the Baram district as a member of the Cambridge Anthropological Expedition under the leadership of A.C. Haddon. The maps are of Borneo, The Eastern Archipelago, the Baram district of Sarawak, and Sarawak. The photographic illustrations are by W.H. Furness, W.W. Nieuwenhuis, A.C. Haddon., together with others taken by Charles Hose.
