Cancelada's concise work on New Mexico, published under the pseudonym Pedro Baptista Pino, includes much information regarding the region's history, geography, populations, government, natural resources, and economic prospects. The author was elected to represent New Mexico in the Spanish Cortes in 1810. He wrote several works during his residency in Spain which were published there, including this classic and significant work on New Mexico.
