A Digest of the Laws of the State of Alabama: Containing All the Statutes of a Public and General Nature, in Force at the Close of the Session of the General Assembly, in January, 1833

20th-century buckram, gilt leather labels. Titlepage stained, with dampstaining near the gutter of the first few and last few leaves, minor foxing.

The second digest of laws for the state of Alabama, after the 1823 digest compiled by Judge Harry Toulmin.

For this edition, John Gaston Aikin, a Yale-educated lawyer practicing in Tuscaloosa and Mobile, was tasked by the general assembly with compiling the laws in 1832. The book was later reprinted in 1836, adding a supplement. To be expected, there are a handful of laws pertaining to relations with the local Indians, and laws governing Indian territory, and numerous laws relating to slavery, runaway slaves, and the slave trade.
