Contemporary black straight grain morocco, covers bordered in gilt and blind, spine with semi-raised bands in six compartment, lettered in the second and fourth, the others with a repeat decoration in gilt, brown endpapers (some wear, hinges starting)

First edition of Duppa's attractively illustrated popular introduction to the Linnaean classification system: hand-coloured issue.

"This work is intended to be a complete illustration of the Linnaean system of Botany ... This work was originally begun as an amusement, and it has gradually expanded in size" (Introduction). Includes a dictionary of botanical terms and a general index. The work was published in both coloured and uncoloured issues.
