In this work, Guillemeau, a French physician and naturalist, describes several varieties of roses and their cultivation and provides classification based on Lamarck. The work also includes a chapter on the medicinal uses of roses, as well as recipes using rose water, oil, vinegar and syrups. The final chapter discusses the literary lore of the rose, and includes original poetry by the author celebrating the flower.
