A splendid series of contemporary caricatures of the characters and doings of a summer at Deauville in 1912.
Georges Goursat moved to Paris in about 1900 and adopted the professional name 'SEM' in honour of the 19th-century illustrator "Cham" (Amédée de Noé), and during his long and very successful working life recorded Paris and the French upper classes during four decades - a speciality was to produce images which are somewhere between straight portraits and outright caricature. He was also capable of more straightforward illustration, satirical work as well as producing a great deal of purely commercial work.
