SCHREINER, William H.
Schreiner's Sporting Manual. A Complete Treatise of Fishing, Fowling and Hunting as Applicable to this Country; with Full Instructions for the Management of the Dog
Philadelphia: 1841. 12mo. 147, pp. Woodcut frontispiece, woodcut illustrations.
Publisher's brown cloth, upper cover lettered in gilt. Housed in a green cloth box.
First edition: a beautiful example of an early American sporting classic.
The work is divided into two parts, the first concerning fishing and the second dealing with shooting, hunting, dogs, etc. It is, as Goodspeed points out, "the first of our sporting books to treat the angler's needs in a systematic way. A scarce book, especially in the original cloth.
