One of Blome's most significant contributions to the field of cartography and geography. The present work provides a comprehensive description of the English colonies in America, reflecting the extent of British territorial claims during the late 17th century.

Richard Blome was a distinguished English cartographer, renowned for his significant contributions to geographical literature. Initially starting his career as a heraldic painter, he later transitioned to publishing, becoming one of the pioneers of the advance subscription method to finance his projects. Blome operated a shop in London from 1668 to 1679 and he, along with his rival John Ogilby, played a crucial role in initiating a new period of English cartographic activity. This comprehensive volume provides a detailed description of the English colonies in America, reflecting the extent of British territorial claims during the late 17th century. In the present work, Blome provides detailed descriptions of islands such as Jamaica, Barbados, and the Leeward Islands, discussing their climate, agricultural products, and trade practices. He elaborates on the sugar plantations, the mainstay of the Caribbean economy. Further, accounts of inland territories such as Carolina, New York, Northwest America, and Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania are also included. Additionally, the book includes information on the governance structures of these colonies, highlighting the administrative practices and legal frameworks established by British authorities. Blome also provided observations on the social hierarchy, population demographics, and interactions between European settlers and Indigenous peoples. Blome's work is significant not only for its content but also for its historical context. It was published during a period of expanding British influence in the Americas, and it reflects contemporary attitudes and perceptions of the New World. His detailed accounts and maps contributed to the European understanding of American geography and played a role in shaping subsequent cartographic and geographic endeavors.
