NASH, After Joseph (1809-78)

The Grand Staircase

London: Thomas McLean, 1848. Chromolithographs, finished by hand, cut to edge of image (as issued) and mounted on original thin card mount with ink-ruled borders. Sheet size: 16 1/4 x 12 7/8 inches.

A fine image of the interior of Windsor Castle during the reign of Queen Victoria. "St. George's Hall" records the banquet given on the occasion of Louis Philippe, King of the French, receiving the Order of the Garter. Queen Victoria, on the arm of Louis Philippe, leads in the honored guests.

These handsome plates, cut to the image edge and mounted in imitation of watercolors, are from Joseph Nash's 'Views of the Interior and Exterior of Windsor Castle', published in London in 1848.

Abbey Scenery 360, plate 2.
