A charming colour-printed mezzotint of English country life

Two young children are shown leaning on a stile, looking out with interest at the world outside the confines of their home. The family dog looks up at the viewer. Behind them, a fairly substantial cottage, built of stone with two brick chimneys, sits comfortably in its wooded surroundings beneath a pleasant blue sky. The whole scene is composed of richly contrasting colors and forms, and could serve to illustrate the beginning of a fairy tale.
